Brookings County, SD, is contemplating the enhancement of a critical three-mile section of 214th Street, stretching from the intersection of Brookings County Road 21/34th Avenue to Brookings County Road 23/Broadway Avenue in the City of Aurora. This initiative, supported by Brookings County, the City of Brookings, the City of Aurora, and other local stakeholders, aims to address increasing traffic demands from the recently constructed I-29 interchange, bolster economic development opportunities in the region, and provide connectivity and increased safety for commuters and pedestrians wishing to use the corridor. The enhancement of 214th Street represents a strategic endeavor to address present and future transportation needs, enhance economic vitality, and promote sustainable development in Brookings County, the City of Aurora, and the City of Brookings. Through collaborative efforts and strategic planning, the project aims to unlock the full potential of the corridor, benefiting residents, businesses, and stakeholders alike.
Brookings County and Banner/HDR partnered to identify key considerations that were in need of study to determine the feasibility of improving the three-mile stretch of roadway from Brookings County Road 21 to Brookings County Road 23. Those key considerations were analyzed, and the potential impacts associated are presented within this report.
